Privacy Policy for SquadClock

This privacy policy explains how personal data is processed when you use SquadClock (“the App”). SquadClock is an installable web app (Progressive Web App, “PWA”) provided via the controller’s website.

1. Data controller

The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:

2. Principle: a local app that collects no data

SquadClock is a purely local app. All content you enter (teams, players, matches, match logs, etc.) is stored solely on your device or in your browser in local storage.

  • There are no user accounts, no sign-in and no registration.
  • The App does not transmit this content to the controller or to any third party.
  • There is no tracking, no analysis of usage behaviour and no advertising.
  • No location data, no contacts and no device identifiers are collected for analytics or advertising purposes.

The controller has no access to the data stored in the App.

3. Data stored on your device or in your browser

To provide its functionality, the App stores the following data locally on your device or in your browser (technically in localStorage and the browser cache):

  • teams and players you create (name, shirt number, strength rating, active/inactive),
  • planned and played matches with results, events and playing times,
  • the App files themselves (program code, icons) so the App can also start offline,
  • if you have unlocked premium: your premium license data (license key, device/instance identifier, license status and expiry date) so that premium remains usable offline (see section 5).

This data remains on your device. You can delete it at any time within the App, or remove it entirely by clearing the website data for SquadClock in your browser settings, or uninstalling the App.

Note: Because the data is tied to your device or browser, it is lost if you clear the storage or use a different browser or device. There is no cross-device sync.

4. Server log files when the App is loaded

SquadClock is served as a static website from a web server. When the website is accessed, connection data is – as is technically necessary for any website request – transmitted to the server and processed in server log files:

  • IP address of the requesting device,
  • date and time of access,
  • name of the requested file and volume of data transferred,
  • status code, referring page (referrer) and browser/operating-system identifier.

This data is technically required to deliver the App and to ensure the stability and security of the server. This data is not combined with other data sources or used to identify individual persons.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a secure and functional provision of the App).

The hosting provider and thus processor within the meaning of Art. 28 GDPR is netcup GmbH, Emmy-Noether-Straße 10, 76185 Karlsruhe, Germany. A data processing agreement is in place with the provider. The server log files are automatically deleted after 30 days.

5. Premium features and license via Lemon Squeezy

The base features of SquadClock are and remain free. Additional premium features (e.g. statistics) can optionally be unlocked with a time-limited license. You reach the purchase and activation from within the App; no user account is required for this.

Purchase and payment are handled via Lemon Squeezy, operated by Lemon Squeezy, LLC, USA. Lemon Squeezy acts as the seller (Merchant of Record) and payment processor and processes the data arising during the order process (e.g. name, email address, payment and billing data) as an independent controller in accordance with its own privacy policy: https://www.lemonsqueezy.com/privacy

After purchase, you receive a license key from Lemon Squeezy by email. To unlock premium on your device, check its status or deactivate the license again, the App transmits the license key together with a device/instance name directly from your browser to the Lemon Squeezy license interface (api.lemonsqueezy.com). In response, the App receives the license status (valid/invalid, expiry date, number of unlocked devices). This information is stored locally on your device (see section 3) so that premium remains usable offline; the App occasionally re-checks the status with Lemon Squeezy.

As Lemon Squeezy is a US provider, a transfer of data to the USA may occur. Lemon Squeezy bases such transfers on appropriate safeguards pursuant to Art. 44 et seq. GDPR (including standard contractual clauses). The controller does not receive full payment data from Lemon Squeezy, only aggregated or pseudonymised information about orders, license and payout status (e.g. via the Lemon Squeezy dashboard).

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the purchase or license contract).

6. Internet connection and permissions

For its core functionality, SquadClock requires no internet connection and, beyond delivering the App files, establishes no network connections of its own; no usage or content data is transmitted.

An internet connection is only needed for (a) the initial load or update of the App files from the web server and (b) – if you use premium – the purchase and the activation, checking and deactivation of the license via Lemon Squeezy (see section 5). Otherwise the App also works offline.

7. Contact by email

The App offers the option to get in touch by email (e.g. for bug reports or feature requests). To do so, the App merely opens your default email application with the address pre-filled. If you send such an email, we process the details you provide (name, email address, content of the message) solely to handle your request.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in responding to enquiries) or Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where the enquiry relates to a purchase or license.

8. Retention period

  • Locally stored App content (including the premium license data) remains until you delete it, clear the website data in your browser, or uninstall the App.
  • Server log files are automatically deleted after 30 days.
  • For an email enquiry, your details are deleted once the enquiry has been conclusively handled and no statutory retention obligations apply.

The retention period for the data processed by Lemon Squeezy in connection with a purchase is governed by its privacy policy.

9. Your rights

Subject to the statutory requirements, you have the following rights: access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16 GDPR), erasure (Art. 17 GDPR), restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR), data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) and objection to processing (Art. 21 GDPR).

Because the controller has no access to the data stored locally on your device or in your browser, you can view and delete this data yourself at any time via the App or your browser settings.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). In Germany, the competent authority is, for example, the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA).

10. Changes to this privacy policy

This privacy policy may be amended to reflect changes in the legal situation or in the App’s features. The current version linked in the App or on the website applies in each case.
